Most people are unaware just how big an issue violence against women is. Help us to raise awareness of it and encourage more people to get involved and take action!
Spotlight on the Domestic Abuse Bill
The Domestic Abuse Bill has now gone through the House of Lords and it's going back to the House of Commons for any amendments to be considered. It will be going back to the Commons on 15th April.
Support for migrant women
Following a debate in the House of Lords on 15 March 2021, the Bishop of Gloucester, one of our Ambassadors, successfully moved an amendment to the Domestic Abuse Bill, an amendment aiming to protect migrant victims of abuse. It would provide them with temporary leave to remain and access to public funds for no less than six months, so they can access support services whilst they flee abuse and apply to resolve their immigration status.
With No Recourse to Public Funds or housing support, very few migrant victims are permitted access to refuge spaces - too many women are facing an impossible choice to stay with a perpetrator or face destitution. No woman should have to face this choice, rather all women should be entitled to get the protection and support they so desperately need.
We are calling on MPs to vote in favour of this amendment, providing protection for all women. You can help by getting in touch with your MP to ask them to protect migrant women facing abuse by voting in favour of this amendment. Send an email to your MP using our template, or why not send your MP a tweet?
