Guest writer Beth has created diary entries for Easter Weekend, from the perspective of Mary Magdalene. Listen below.

Journalling/reflection prompts

You might like to read John chapter 20:1-18.

  • Imagine are with the women as they discover the empty tomb. What are you feeling and thinking about what might have happened to Jesus?
  • Picture yourself as Mary outside the tomb, hearing Jesus call you by name amidst your confusion and fear. What response does that evoke in you?
  • Consider the position that Mary and the disciples are in at the end of this diary entry. What are the similarities and differences between their situation and ours today, two thousand years later?

I hope you’ve found this Easter journey helpful in engaging with the incredible story of Jesus’s death and resurrection. As we finish today, let’s pray that final prayer, imagined for Mary but so relevant to us today:

“God, hold us in our grief, dance with us in our joy, sit with us in the waiting, protect us from the sting of the past and help us in the unknown, to learn how to trust you.”
