Venue: Ammerdown Conference & Retreat Centre, BA3 5SW

We can’t wait to meet you and treat you to a weekend filled with relaxing activities for you to choose from, with a detailed programme below. Take a look at where we will be staying with this video from the Ammerdown Centre.
Programme
The theme for this year’s Survivors Retreat is Joy!
This Retreat, we will be taking time out to explore how we can choose and experience joy in our lives. And we have a range of activities in our programme (see below) to help us do just that! The programme is designed so that you can opt in and out whenever it suits you, really making the weekend your own.
Please note that this programme is subject to change.
Workshops
Flâneuse with Jen
On Saturday morning, Jen will be leading an early morning flâneuse – which is a french term for a mindful meander. This will be through the lovely woodland surrounding the Ammerdown Centre.
As with the entire programme, this is completely optional, so if you’d rather have a lie-in, then please do!
Mindful Movement with Nicole
A gentle workshop focusing on breathing, stretching & balance. Including elements of bringing awareness to our bodies and finding peace and rest. Suitable for all who are able to do mat work on the floor, as each movement can be modified or opted out of – as you could just choose to lie down & rest!
Shown to lower stress, it’s a great way to practice self-care.
All you need is yourself, a mat, comfy/exercise clothing and a bottle of water.
Music for Wellbeing with Cathy
Cathy will be leading us through a music for wellbeing workshop, using different instruments and our voices to help us experience music in a therapeutic way.
All abilities are welcome, and no music experience is necessary.
Drama with Nicole
We will start with a fun warm up to focus our mind and bodies and to connect us as a group.
We will look at some resources to shape our thoughts and creative ideas.
We will take the role of both directors and actors in small groups and create some still images, which we will then share together at the end of the session.
This will be a safe, therapeutic and inclusive space, where there will be gentle collaboration rather than any pressure to “perform in the spotlight” and please come with an open mind about what Drama is!
You will need to wear comfortable clothing and bring a bottle of water.
Scratch Choir with Cathy
Cathy will be helping us form a choir from scratch, helping us find joy through singing together! All abilities are welcome, and no previous singing experience is required.
All you need for this workshop is your lovely self and a water bottle.
Guided Imagery Meditation with Nicole
This will be a safe, inclusive and gentle space, where you are free to either sit or lie and find a comfortable position for you. Guided imagery meditations are known to promote deep relaxation, reduce stress and anxiety and improve well-being.
You are welcome to bring a mat or a wrap/scarf to increase your own comfort and water for rehydration at the end.
Photoshoots with Jen
Jen has generously offered us mini photoshoots throughout the weekend! These photoshoots will be taken in different places across the Ammerdown Centre, and Jen has great experience in making sure that participants feel comfortable and at ease.
There will be more details coming soon for how to sign up for a photoshoot, as well as how to signup for the other workshops too!
Wondering what to Bring?
There isn’t much you’ll need to bring, but some recommendations include:
- Comfy, loose fitting clothing for our mindful movement sessions if you’d like to join these.
- A yoga mat if you have one (again for the mindful movement sessions).
- Trainers if you would like to join a run or walk.
- Exercise clothing if you would like to join a run or walk.
- A Bible.
Meet the Team!

Bekah Legg, CEO
Bekah will be our main speaker for this year’s Retreat. Bekah finds joy through sitting in the sunshine with a good book, having a good meal with friends or family, and in the mountains and the sea.

Hannah Gardner, Survivor Support Lead
Hannah will be overseeing the retreat and is your first point of call for any queries. Hannah finds joy in the beauty of flowers and nature in general, in a good long run, in listening to music, in sunshiny days, and when she is laughing with her loved ones.

Ingrid Hatt, Volunteer
Ingrid is attending the retreat in a volunteer capacity also helping to oversee the event. Ingrid finds joy in security, contentment and gratitude, through being able to lift someone else’s spirit, being with her children, through birdsong and being in nature.

Nicole Moore, Volunteer
Nicole will be leading our mindful movement and drama workshops for this year’s retreat. Nicole finds joy through being creative, walking in nature, connecting with friends, the greeting that dogs offer, and smiling at someone who smiles back.

Cathy Burton, Volunteer
Cathy will be leading the worship and music workshops for this year’s retreat. Cathy experiences joy through having time with her family, going to Cornwall, and through dog walks in the sunshine.

Jen Plummer, Volunteer
Jen will be joining us this year to offer further support, and will be running mini photoshoots! Jen finds joy through biscuits with tea, the changing of the seasons, exploring new and old places by bike, and a trip to the cinema.
