UN CSW Forum

The Christian Network to End Domestic Abuse are proud to regularly contribute to the UN Commission on the Status of Women Forum, co-hosting parallel events alongside Baptist World Alliance Women & World Evangelical Alliance Women. These events enable us to take a deeper dive into particular topics related to faith and domestic abuse, bringing together activists from across the world to share learning and be inspired to take action.

Faith in Action: Dismantling Barriers to Justice for Women

Monday 16th March 10:30AM EST / 2:30PM GMT

Online via Zoom

Faith communities have at times contributed to harmful narratives around domestic abuse, yet these same communities hold tremendous potential for healing, protection, and justice. Join us as at the UN CSW70 Forum as we share stories of transformation and explore practical pathways for people of faith to join in the global movement to end gender-based violence.

Together, we can help build a more just and flourishing world for women and girls.

Past UN CSW Forum events

The majority of victims and survivors of domestic violence are women. This means that often, it’s thought of as a “women’s issue” – but that’s not the case. Violence against women and girls is an issue that should grieve all of us, and in fact, it’s only by changing the attitudes and behaviours of men that we’ll make progress to end it.

In this CSW69 parallel event, we heard about some brilliant initiatives from men and women across the world who are working to prevent domestic abuse and engage men in the conversation.

Whilst poverty is not a cause of domestic abuse, it is an exacerbating factor. It certainly can make women feel trapped if they are financially dependent on their abuser. Equally, the UN definition of domestic abuse/violence recognises economic abuse as a form of domestic abuse. In this session at the UN CSW68, we take a look at how poverty can be a barrier to safety for victims and survivors – and how the Church can help make a difference.

Rapidly advancing technology provides huge opportunities for preventing and responding to domestic abuse, and helping survivors access support. But it can also be used by perpetrators to cause further harm – cyberstalking, harassment and other forms of tech-facilitated abuse are now commonplace. Join CNEDA and World Evangelical Alliance Women for this session at the UN CSW67 Forum for an exploration of the challenges and opportunities that technology presents.

In partnership with the World Evangelical Alliance at the UN CSW65, we explored how the global Church can be part of the solution when it comes to ending domestic abuse.
